Resthaven Farms, Located in SW Virginia
Resthaven Farms is a small family farm located in the foothills of southwest Virginia, just over the North Carolina border and a few minutes outside of Mount Airy, NC. We usually have a few horses and the occasional good mule for sale; these are trail broke animals that we ride ourselves on mountain trails. We will have the rare older show horse or prospect but most of our horses and mules are just good trail or working animals. If you are looking for something specific I can refer you to other farms in the area that may have what you are looking for.
Most of our horses and mules are safe for the "average joe" rider; we sometimes will have kid-safe animals, and sometimes horses or mules that need a more experienced rider. WE WILL LET YOU KNOW THE DIFFERENCE! Not every horse is for every person, so it is important to tell us exactly what your skills and needs are when you inquire. Again, if we don't have something to suit you, I am very happy to refer you to other farms. All of the horses and mules on the farm are used by us, so we can tell you honestly about the animal before you ever make the trip out to visit. We do prefer visits to the farm as opposed to long-distance purchasing, and we encourage vet checks.
We may have a few dairy heifer calves and possibly an adult milk cow available at times. We have mostly Jersey cows but our preference is for a gentle cow that is halter-broke and easy to handle, no matter what the breed! Contact us for availability.
Feel free to call or text 276-733-4355 anytime for more information on horses, goats, or cows. You can also email me at [email protected]

Something of a disclaimer.
We try to be as honest as possible about our animals (be they horses, cows, goats, whatever) and most of them have been here a while or have belonged a while to friends since we do advertise animals that belong to our friends. We have sold sight unseen before and had many satisfied customers. If a client is unsatisfied with an animal, we do try to purchase them back; at this time however, I feel the need to say that we are working people, on a working farm, and often live paycheck to paycheck, and when an animal is sold that money usually does go into bills, the care of the other animals, and the upkeep of our land. At this time if you are unsatisfied with an animal you purchase from us, we may not be able to immediately buy the animal back; you can return the animal and we will re-evaluate and resell for you OR you may trade back for something else that we have.
We want everyone to be satisfied and we want our animals taken care of, no matter where they may go. I recommend coming to see an animal, perhaps multiple times, before making a decision and sight-unseen sales will be limited from this point forward. I can only tell you how an animal has been on our farm--we are mainly trail riders, and while not "expert" riders, are comfortable on and around our horses/mules and this may make a big difference in how the animal behaves if you are a timid handler/rider. If we've owned an animal for 18 months, and say it has never bucked and we trust our grandparents to ride it, then that's how it's been here and I do not expect a complete personality change in that animal when it changes owners; if it's stated to be a trail animal, and doesn't know so much in the ring, then expect it's ringwork knowledge to be minimal, and vice versa. We want you to be happy, but we want our critters happy too.
